What We Do
Sometimes the problem is obvious — scratching in the ceiling, droppings in the basement, a bat flying through the living room at 2 a.m. Other times it’s less clear. You smell something. You hear something at night but can’t place it. You notice insulation scattered near the attic hatch. You just bought an older house and want to know what you’re dealing with.
Catskill Animal Damage Control provides wildlife property assessments throughout the Hudson Valley. We inspect your home or property, identify what’s present (or what could get in), and give you a clear picture of what’s happening and what to do about it — without scare tactics or inflated recommendations.
PROPERTY ASSESSMENTS
A property assessment is the right starting point for a few different situations. Some homeowners call because they have an active problem they can’t identify. Some call because they want to understand the risk before it becomes a problem. And some call because they’ve had repeated wildlife issues and want to understand why animals keep finding their way in.
Hudson Valley homes — especially older ones — tend to have more vulnerabilities than newer construction. Stone foundations, aging rooflines, deteriorated soffits and fascia, gaps around utility penetrations. These aren’t defects unique to any one house; they’re just features of older properties that wildlife know how to exploit.
A proper assessment finds the entry points before the animals do. Or confirms what’s already being used.
Our inspections are systematic. We’re looking for:
We look at the attic, basement, crawlspace, exterior roofline, foundation perimeter, and any outbuildings or attached structures. The scope can be adjusted based on your specific concerns.
After the assessment, we tell you what we found. If there’s an active infestation, we explain what animal is involved, where it’s getting in, and what removal and exclusion would look like. If the house is clean but has obvious vulnerabilities, we point those out and explain what it would take to address them.
We’re not going to tell you your house is about to fall down when it isn’t. And we’re not going to recommend extensive exclusion work on a house that’s in good shape. The point of an assessment is honest information — you decide what to do with it.
Recommendations may include removal, exclusion, specific repairs, monitoring, or just a list of things to keep an eye on. We build a picture of the property and let you decide what makes sense given your priorities and budget.
